For Executives & Boards
Understand engineering without a translation layer.
You do not need to know what a pull request is to need an answer about delivery. Pacia presents engineering investment, predictability and risk in business terms, from live data, and gives every executive and board member free unlimited access so nobody is waiting on a deck.
- Effort on new product value
- 48%
- Effort on defects & rework
- 19%
- Committed epics delivered
- 22 of 26
- Change failure rate
- High band
- AI tooling cost, quarter
- Tracked per provider
Every figure is derived from delivery systems, not self-reported.
Engineering is usually the largest cost line with the least visible output
For most boards, engineering is the biggest line on the cost sheet and the hardest one to interrogate. The reporting that reaches you is typically hand-assembled, several weeks old, and framed in terms that are difficult to challenge without sounding as though you are questioning the team’s competence.
Pacia gives you the same underlying picture engineering uses, framed in business terms: what proportion of effort went into new value against maintenance and defect work, how much of what was committed actually shipped, whether delivery is getting more or less predictable, and what the AI tooling investment is producing. It is current, it is derived from systems rather than self-reported, and you can look at it yourself.
That last part is deliberate. Pacia charges only for active developers, so every executive, board member and finance colleague has unlimited free access. Reporting that requires someone to prepare it is reporting that arrives late and pre-interpreted.
Follow the engineering cost to delivered work
The allocation starts with work that moved, applies the organisation’s confirmed classification and leaves every category open to inspection.
From work delivered to an investment answer
- 1Pull requests + work itemsThe work that actually moved in the selected period
- 2Your confirmed rulesIssue types, labels and components mapped once

Pacia does not estimate an allocation from activity volume. It applies the classification your organisation confirms, and leaves a category unconfigured when the source data cannot support it.
The questions this answers
"What did we spend the quarter building?"
Investment balance splits engineering effort across new product value, maintenance, defect work and unplanned interruptions. It is the closest honest equivalent to a P&L for engineering capacity, and it comes from delivery data rather than timesheets.
"Did we ship what we said we would?"
Committed work against delivered work, per sprint and per epic, with the reasons visible — scope added later, work carried out, dependencies. Scope growth is measured against total scope rather than the initial batch, because epics routinely start with one issue.
"Are we getting better or worse?"
The four DORA metrics — how often you release, how long a change takes to reach production, how often a change breaks something, how quickly it is fixed — banded against industry-standard performance levels and trended over time.
"Is the AI investment working?"
Adoption, active usage and cost per AI coding tool, set against the delivery metrics of the work those tools touched. Reported as correlation rather than dressed up as proof of causation.
"Is the team all right?"
Developer pulse survey results shown next to the delivery data. Retention risk usually shows up in sentiment and in review concentration well before it shows up in a resignation.

Common questions
Do I need a technical background to use this?
No. The executive-facing views are written in delivery and investment terms. Where a technical measure appears, such as change failure rate, it is explained on the page and linked to a plain-English guide rather than assumed knowledge.
Does adding board members cost extra?
No. Pacia bills £20 per active developer per month on an annual contract, with a ten-developer minimum. Executives, board members, finance and every other stakeholder are unlimited and free.
How do I know the numbers are not being managed?
Every figure drills through to the underlying pull requests and issues, and each metric is labelled by how it was produced. Where configuration is missing, Pacia shows the metric as unconfigured rather than rendering a zero — a deliberate choice, because a plausible wrong number is harder to catch than an obviously missing one.
Can this replace the engineering section of the board pack?
For most organisations it replaces the assembly work rather than the narrative. The figures, trends and drill-downs are already there and current; what a board pack adds is the explanation of why, which is still a human job.
